How to stay fit on vacation?

So I am doing my best to keep up with my Nike + Training, but I noticed staying active and eating healthy becomes 10x more difficult on vacation or on holidays! My mother was visiting last week and I wanted to take her out to all the places we have that she does not get to see at home. This made watching calories and my diet much more difficult as well as finding time to workout.

As a general update, my weight has not dropped that much and still fluctuate, but since I have been doing Nike + Training, I feel like I have slimmed down, my pants are loser, I feel stronger, and overall I have hope that the pounds will start dropping soon if I continue to watch how much I eat.

My husband and I live in a two bedroom town home that is at the end of the row. My sister moved in with us in April and has been living in the extra room for the summer while she has her internship. Yesterday, Tyler's brother moved in as well to find work and save up for his mission. He will be staying on the couch until my sister moves out. Since it is summer, the house has become extra hot and all though our AC works, it is not working enough, which makes wanting to workout even more difficult! Plus, the pets are struggling with the heat as well! (Which means much more shedding)

So a couple questions, how do you keep your house cool during hot days? How do you stick to your diet and fitness routine when there are sweets and cookouts to be enjoyed? How do you find the time to workout when there is just so many other things to do?

These questions may seem ironic since my last post was about motivation, but I thought I would try to get others opinions on it as well.

All though I am struggling, here are some things that I have been trying in order to maintain my new healthier lifestyle while still enjoying my vacation time and going out to eat:

#1: Smaller Portions! Likely if you travel outside of the states, you will realize that yes! America is bigger! We have bigger stores and bigger portions of food! I am kind of frustrated with how much you are almost forced to order when you go out! So at restaurants that serve ginormous portions, instead of ordering a "regular" size meal, I try to stick with just a side or I look at their kids meals.

#2: Share A Meal! This is probably easier for those of you who are in a relationship. Not only does this help you cut back on calories, but it also saves you both money! I can say this is one of my favorite things about being married. :)

All right, the picture is cheesy but you get the idea...

#3: Embrace leftovers! Especially when going out do nicer restaurants like Olive Garden, get leftovers! Lots of times, they even pack it for you! The plates at Olive Garden are delicious but are HUGE! I want to eat all of it, but I know how over indulged and pudgy I would feel if I actually ate it all in one sitting. Like my previous tip a couple blogs back, only eat until you are satisfied! If you wait a couple minutes, you will notice that you are actually full. Plus, packing leftovers from Olive Garden makes an awesome lunch to take to work the next day and reheat!

#4: Sometimes, it's okay to throw away! Okay...I know this sounds horrible, but it is actually something that sometimes I struggle to follow! I grew up being taught to eat everything on my plate and for a long time I had a serious problem throwing away food because it felt like a waste. I would sometimes even ask a friend to throw it out for me if I was too full because I could not handle throwing it away myself. But for the sake of my weight and my happiness, I have taught myself to throw away food now when I am full. Mind you, this is usually only food that will go bad even if I try to save it for later.

All though I will still post updates on weight loss and how I am doing with my own struggle, I am thinking it is almost time to start writing more about other things. I have some ideas, but I am curious to know what kinds of things would YOU like to read about in a blog? Ideas?

Thanks everyone for reading! Check back soon for a new post!
